Things I Love: Lemon Recipes, Free Yoga, Savory Spices, Library Perks

1.26.2018

At the beginning of January, I started a gratitude journal along with my daily to-do list. The act of writing out a few things I’m thankful for feels good. It reorients my mind to start the day in a positive mindset before jumping into all my obligations. The effect doesn’t always last much longer than my morning coffee, but I’m working on that.

These blog posts about things I love accomplish a similar result. And hopefully introduce you to something new and awesome, too.

A Few Things

This podcast by the two female founders of Of A Kind is funny, easy listening, and feels refreshingly human. I love their banter and interview style. Check the recent episode with Ban.do founder Jen Gotch. Their online shop, curating cool goods from emerging designers, is also worth a look.

Snapseed

Editing photos is one of my all-time favorite things to do. Photoshop is wonderful, but I like Snapseed for the ease of use and ability to do everything from my phone. Also, no in-app purchases for the good stuff. It’s all free. I’ve saved my favorite photo treatment (removing some shadows and highlights, and upping the saturation, brightness, and ambiance) as a custom filter. The perspective tool works wonders at straightening out lines.

Wonky little ceramic cones I made around the holidays. Top photo retouched using Snapseed.

Letter2Love stamp

Our realtors gifted us a personalized, self-inking address stamp from this Etsy shop as a housewarming present. I love the modern design, and the self-inking bit makes it convenient to use. Maybe this will encourage me to send Christmas cards this year…

Yoga with Adriene TRUE 30-Day Series

Adriene’s channel has been on my YouTube subscription list for a few years now. Her relaxed and spiritual-but-not-too-cheesy approach is right up my alley. This series has been a good challenge to get on my mat every day. I haven’t been perfect about it, but something is better than nothing, right? Bonus points for her adorable dog that joins in on sessions.

At home yoga = yoga with Penny Lane.

Lemon recipes

Thanks to a seriously fertile lemon tree in our front yard, I’ve been on a lemon recipe kick. Lemon cheesecake bars were first, then lemon pound cake, and a cocktail with whiskey, lemon, rosemary, and maple syrup. Up next: classic lemon bars by Ina Garten. Pretty sure they’re going to be amazing, but I’m not stopping there. We have at least 47 lemons to go.

Library perks: Hoopla

My mom used to take us kids to the library during hot summer months. She would let us loose with a tote bag each, giving complete freedom to pick as many books as could fit inside. I felt like such an adult choosing my books and checking them out with my own library card. There’s definitely a sentimental bent to my love, but the libraries of today also have tons of amazing perks. Case in point: Hoopla, a free service for digital rentals of books, audio books, movies, and TV shows.

My most recent library haul.

Dill Dip from Savory Spice Shop

Once you make tuna or chicken salad with a sprinkle of this dill dip blend from Savory Spice shop, you won’t be able to go back to life pre-dill. Their Spice Club sends three spice samples along with recipes each month, which is how I discovered this one. Hat tip to my brother for giving us the subscription, aka the best gift ever.

Have a wonderful weekend!
