Celestial & Carved Incense Burners

Scent is the sense most strongly tied to a feeling of home for me. Burning incense and candles makes a space feel so much more full and comfortable, and the scent memory of favorite smells can be really strong and comforting.

For our wedding, my husband and I chose new perfume/cologne to wear for the first time that day. The happy flashbacks I get from putting on that perfume (I chose Kai, and he went with Juniper Ridge’s Big Sur) are so worth it.

That’s why incense burners were one of the first things that came to mind for me when thinking of items I’d love to make. Not only does having a pretty holder remind you to use it, but if you’re like me and prone to lighting something pleasantly smelly at least once a day, you end up leaving it out on the counter or shelf. It turns into part of your home decor, and in that case, it should be beautiful and handmade if you’re looking at it all the time (in my humble opinion).

Continuing my ceramics exploration, I made a small batch of moon-shaped and carved dome-shaped incense burners with that thought in mind. The domes have a raw, natural feeling thanks to the matte finish and the moons vary in shape and glaze combination. I’m considering trying to standardize and reproduce some of my pieces, but I’m also still enjoying seeing how each one turns out differently. TBD on what shapes I’ll work on next.

Everything pictured here is listed in my Etsy shop now.

Sending you wishes for a sweet smelling home.
